Planting the American Elm trees along the Living Road of Remembrance, 1922.

The dust swirled as the American Doughboy breathed in the mustard gas of WWI.  From 1917–1918 they fought in the hope that the future generations would live in peace.  Their lives for our peace! They look at us from the history books.  The war is almost whispered on the wind.  Heroic names like Alvin York, Frank Luke, Henry John, Charles Whittlesy, Eduardo Izac, Dan Daly. They joined local heroes.  Hand to hand fighting as the ammunition ran out; pilots who shot down enemy balloons that marked their targets; captured soldiers trying to escape back to American lines with vital information all are true stories of WWI.  We need to tell these stories lest we forget.
